Kindle e-readers are now available to buy online in Ireland from Amazon UK .
Up until March 2013 - Irish residents who wanted to buy a Kindle from Amazon had to order it from Amazon.com - the US site. But now it is possible to get Kindles delivered to Ireland from Amazon in the UK. (Free delivery on orders over £25)

The new Kindle Touch Kindle Touch PaperWhite is now available for delivery to Ireland .

The Paperwhite is both thinner and lighter than the KIndle touch, this however could be attributed to the absence of a headphone jack and the lesser storage capacity of 2Gb. Although this may seem like a downside to the Paperwhite, 2Gb of storage should be more than enough for even the most avid of readers with the ability to hold up to 1,100 books. The device comes in models both with and without built-in wi-fi, with the former you will be able to wirelessly download e-books from the Kindle store and receive recommendations for future books based on your library. Staying true to previous Kindle's form the battery life in the Paperwhite clocks in at up to eight weeks. This should be more than enough battery life to be able to bring the e-reader on holiday without any worries of it ever running out.

The 3G enabled Kindle can acess the internet for free via Vodafone Ireland's 3G signal. It can also be used to access the internet in over 100 countries around the world - so you can download new books on the move almost anywhere in the country . There is no charge other than the amount you pay to Amazon for the e-book.
There is even a basic browser built in to the Kindle - so you can also check web based email such as Gmail and browse many websites for FREE in over 100 countries ! It might not work too well with image heavy sites - but fine for browsing news sites / forums etc.
The Kindle lets you read for up to one month on a single charge versus a few hours on an Ipad or smart phone.
